In a letter to parents today, Pine Prairie High School says they are working on procedures to enhance the safety of children and campus after a school shooting in Florida last week.

Monday morning, Pine Prairie High School met with representatives from Evangeline Parish 911 offices, Pine Prairie Police and Evangeline Sheriff's Office to discuss current procedures and protocols. The group also looked into improving those practices, focusing on ways to improve.

Since the shooting in Florida, several parishes have been dealing with threats made against schools. On Monday, a threat against Ville Platte High School was received. Law enforcement has made an arrest in connection with that threat.

Drills have been set for Pine Prairie in the coming days while students are in school. Other unannounced drills are scheduled to take place in the future.

After the drill set for February 22, 2018, is completed, the agencies that met today will meet again.

An Instagram post circulating in the same fashion as the one made against Ville Platte High School is now making threats against Pine Prairie High School. The post showed up around 4:00 p.m. Monday afternoon. A screenshot of the post has been provided.

KATC has reached out to law enforcement and School and Parish officials on the credibility of this threat. After more threats were discovered online, The Evangeline Parish School Board made the decision to close schools for Tuesday, February 19, 2018. Read more here
