More spring-like conditions for the week ahead

Posted: Updated:

A few isolated showers will be possible this evening as a weak cool front slowly drifts south through Acadiana.

Later tonight this front should stall near the coast and the showers will come to an end after midnight.

Then on Sunday the front will lift back to the north as a warm front keeping things on the mild side with highs in the mid 70s under a mix of sun and clouds.

Monday and Tuesday the southerly flow off the Gulf will pick up with sustained winds out of the SSE at 10-20 mph helping to push temperatures into the upper 70s to lower 80s each afternoon.

Our next system looks to approach the area Wednesday in the form off a cool front producing scattered showers and a few thunderstorms out ahead of it.

However, there is still some uncertainty with this front as the models have it stalling over Acadiana or just to our west.

Thus a few scattered showers could linger into Thursday before it looks like the front retreats back to the north late Thursday into Friday.

If this thinking is correct the western half of Acadiana will have a better chance of seeing more rain then the eastern half.

This is depicted on European potential rainfall totals graphic where areas near Lake Charles and Alexandria could pick up 1-2 inches of rain while Lafayette and New Iberia might only see a half inch.

Either way this is a system we will have to watch closely to see how it actually plays out as the model is also showing 2-4 inches of rain for areas closer to Houston, which could lead to the possibility for flooding if that ends up shifting our way.

With the front back to the north by Friday temperatures start to warm near 80 again with partly cloudy skies.

Looking ahead to next weekend another cool front could try to work down into Acadiana late Saturday into Sunday morning creating a slight chance(30%) for scattered showers otherwise it will be mostly cloudy with highs in the upper 70s or lower 80s.
