LSU rallies for opening day win over Notre Dame

Posted: Updated:

BATON ROUGE -- LSU used two home runs to rally from a 6-0 deficit and beat Notre Dame on opening night.

After surrendering six runs on three hits, an error, and a wild pitch, LSU used the long ball to get back in it. In the bottom of the sixth, Bryce Jordan (Junior) hit a grand slam off of Notre Dame starting pitcher Scott Tully, cutting the lead to 6-4. The home run ended Tully's night. He allowed four runs on five hits, in five innings pitched.

Then in the eight, the Tigers' Josh Smith (sophomore) stepped to the plate with two on, hitting a go-ahead home run of pitcher Matt Vierling.

LSU plays Notre Dame for Game 2 of the series Saturday at 4.
