St. Mary Parish Sheriff's deputies arrested an 11-year-old today and accused him of lying about a gun on campus at Raintree Elementary.

Deputies were called to the school at 9 a.m. Friday, after a teacher received a report that a student might have a gun on campus. Deputies detained the student involved and searched the school. No weapon was found.

Detectives did find evidence that the child intentionally made false statements about the gun. They arrested him and booked him with terrorizing. He was released to a guardian.

The investigation is continuing.

“The safety of all of our children is priority. Any reports of a possible threat to their safety will be fully investigated. The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office will continue to partner with the school board, faculty, students, and parents to keep our schools safe," says Sheriff Scott Anslum.

Anyone with information on the case can contact the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office at 337-828-1960.
