Cajuns close season with tough schedule

Posted: Updated:

With six games to play, UL women's basketball will face six of the top seven teams in the Sun Belt, the Cajuns being number five.

It's an opportunity to jump the Sun Belt standings with 2-7 being separated by just one game. Eighth place Coastal Carolina is behind second place by three games. As coach Garry Brodhead put it Wednesday, it's a good ole fashion 'log-jam.'

UL has won three-straight and a strong finish could propel them near the top of the standings. A bad run could have the opposite effect, but either way, coach Brodhead likes his team's opportunity.

"Whether we win or lose, this prepares us for the tournament," said coach Brodhead. "It's still all about the tournament. That's my goal when we come into the year. Our kids, I ask them at the beginning, what's you goal? We want to win the conference tournament, the number one thing. You win the conference, that's nice, but it doesn't get you to the (NCAA) tournament."

UL hosts Texas state with a 5:00 p.m. tip-off Thursday.
