Daniel Cormier Comes Home for Mardi Gras

Posted: Updated:

LAFAYETTE (KATC) -- Monday Daniel Cormier stopped by the Lafayette Boys & Girls Club to spend time with the kids of the club he once spent many summers at.

"When I come down Washington St. and the old brick building, it's just a lot of memories," he said. "A lot of summer days spent here."

The UFC Champion is in the midst of training for another belt. In January Cormier defended his UFC Light Heavyweight Belt defeating Volkan Oezdemir. Next the champ will battle Stipe Miocic in July. It's a chance for Cormier to hold two belts at one time.

Miocic is a very familiar opponent. The two are coaches on this season's The Ultimate Fighter, a Fox Sports reality show. You can hear Cormier talk more about this fight below in the raw interview. There Daniel also discusses Connor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather cross-platform fights. (That's snipped below the raw.)

Cormier's return to Lafayette is the first he's been home since 2016, and the first he's been home for Mardi Gras since 2014's "Mardi Gras on Ice."

"I haven't been for a really long time. The last time I was here, or tired to bring my family, there was a snow storm. When does it snow in Lafayette? There was like an ice storm and we were stuck in a hotel for the entire day... But I'm excited. I'm excited to go to the parade, and be home again such a huge and fun holiday."
