The Baldwin Police Department has identified the inmate who was burned after a fire broke out at the department on Monday, February 13. Police Chief Harry Smith Jr. says that Edmond "Ray" Robertson, Jr. was inside the department in police custody at the time of the fire. It is believed that Robertson set himself on fire while in the town's holding cell.

Police say that Robertson is currently recovering at an area hospital from burns received during the fire. He was transported by Acadian Ambulance. It is not known if Robertson will face charges upon his release from the hospital.

No other injuries were reported due to the fire.

Chief Smith says that the department is currently working to move whatever can be salvaged from the building to the old fire station in Baldwin. He mentioned that the police department is a total loss.

The State Fire Marshal's Office has taken over the investigation.
