PRESS RELEASE

LAFAYETTE – After a great weekend in Georgia, Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's basketball sophomore point guard Jasmine Thomas was named the College Sports Madness Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week for the weekend of Feb. 8-10.

Thomas, who's the first Cajuns player to get the award since Jaylyn Gordon got the award on Jan. 18, 2016, was the grease to the Cajuns wheels, averaging 15.0 points per game, 7.0 assists per game and 6.5 rebounds per game in both of their wins in Georgia over the weekend.  The two wins extended the Cajuns conference winning streak to three games, going back to the Cajuns win at ULM on Feb. 3.

IT STARTED IN ATLANTA: Thomas started the weekend off with a career high in assists (nine) as she finished with 15 points, those nine assists and four rebounds.  She shot 50 percent from the field (5-10) while playing 37 minutes, to lead the Cajuns to the 75-60 win over Georgia State.

IT WAS FINISHED AT HANNER FIELDHOUSE: At Georgia Southern, the Cajuns defense was key to their victory, but Thomas was the hustling force that led the defense to their big win.  Thomas again finished with 15 points, and she added a career high nine rebounds along with five assists in 38 minutes of action.  She dove all over the court, to make play after play and Louisiana came out of Hanner Fieldhouse with a 58-48 win.

WHAT IS COLLEGE SPORTS MADNESS: College Sports Madness is a website that covers all aspects of college sports.  They name a national player of the week broken down by overall national player, high-major player and a mid-major player of the week.  CSM also breaks it down by conference naming a player of the week for each conference across the country.

CAJUNS BACK IN THE DOME: Louisiana returns to the Cajundome this weekend with a pair of games against the Texas schools.  They'll welcome the second place Texas State Bobcats on Thursday, Feb. 15 with tip scheduled for 5 p.m.  And on Saturday, Feb. 17, the Cajuns will host the UT-Arlington Mavericks in the Cajuns Pink Game, with that game's tip time scheduled for 4 p.m.
