BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A 56-year-old woman has been convicted of manslaughter in the 2014 bedsore-ridden death of her 82-year-old mother.

State District Judge Mike Erwin will sentence Joleslie Looney, of Baton Rouge, on April 10. She faces up to 40 years in prison.

Looney's 21-year-old daughter, Lauren Looney, is scheduled to stand trial March 19 for manslaughter. She was 17 at the time of her grandmother's death in September 2014.

The Advocate reports an East Baton Rouge Parish jury deliberated about 40 minutes Friday before unanimously finding Looney guilty in the death of Bessie Looney.

The autopsy photographs of an emaciated Bessie Looney's bedsores were gruesome, and the jury saw a number of them during the trial. The defendant's attorney, Stephen Sterling, says the pictures were "too much, too graphic to overcome."
