Health units across the state are still offering flu vaccines through Monday, February 12 for those who have not yet been vaccinated and wish to get the flu shot.

The Centers for Disease Control and LA Department of Health recommend the flu shot each year for those over the age of six months who do not have any other complicating conditions. The state says they are on track for 700 to 800 deaths and 8,000 hospitalizations this year due to the flu.

In an attempt to stop the spread of flu in the state, which is elevated this year, health officials are offering free flu vaccinations to Louisiana residents. During the Mardi Gras holiday, flu experts say that those who are sick should stay home and skip the parades.

Health officials ask those getting their shot to wear loose fitting sleeves and to bring insurance cards if one is available. The shot is free and will be available at the following locations:

Acadia: 1029 Capitol Ave., Crowley, LA 70526

Evangeline: 1010 W. LaSalle St., Ville Platte, LA 70586

Iberia: 715-B Weldon St., New Iberia, LA 70560

Lafayette: 220 W. Willow St., Bldg. A, Lafayette, LA 70501

St. Landry: 308 W. Bloch St., Opelousas, LA 70750

St. Martin: 303 W. Port St., St. Martinville, LA 70582
