Two Acadiana families connected by birth and death

Two Acadiana families are now bonded to one another forever when one family's grief ended with a gift.

Jamie Fontenot's father, James Grimmett died at Lafayette General, at the same time, Connie Despanie and Benjamin Hall's son, Kingston, was born in the same hospital.

Jamie wrote Connie a letter telling her that Kingston must be her father's angel. 

"I started crying and it was just overwhelming," said Despanie. "When we got to the end...Please keep my dad in your prayers...and she said his name. His name is James."

Kingston did not have a middle name at that point. 

"Debating on what name we should give him as a strong middle name," said Connie Despanie. "We were just waiting up until the point where we had no choice but to make a decision," 

"There were no second thoughts," said Benjamin Hall, Kingston's father. "We were going to name him Kingston James Hall." 

"For you to have an extended family that, through the grace of God, was put into your life, that's amazing," said Despanie.
