Students at St. Francis school are celebrating Mardi Gras the old-fashioned way.

Thursday morning, students at the Iota school chased chickens. The chasing of the chicken is in reference to a part of the Courir de Mardi Gras, a long running tradition celebrated at Mardi Gras. Some students were even dressed in costume in keeping with the Mardi Gras tradition.

According to the school's principal, it's a long-running tradition.

"It means a lot to them this school is 101 years old and a lot of their ancestors came here and did the same thing so it's family around here," said Mike Darbonne the school's principal.
