A Vermilion Parish man convicted of asking his friend to kill his wife has been sentenced to 17 years in prison.

Harlow Hutchinson, 47, was indicted in 2015 for soliciting the best man at his wedding to kill his wife of 24 years.

During his trial, jurors saw police videos of Hutchinson allegedly plotting the murder with his best man.

In the videos, Hutchinson talks with the alleged hit man about the crossbow and type of arrows they planned to use to kill the wife.  They also discuss using surgical gloves and chemicals to clean up DNA.

Prosecutors say Hutchinson wanted his wife dead so he could claim her assets and cash in on a $500,000 dollar insurance policy, so he could go live with a Ukrainian woman he had met online.

Hutchinson faced up to 20 years in prison for the charge. During Thursday's sentencing hearing, prosecutors argued that he never accepted responsibility for his crime, but instead blamed everyone else - including his friend, who actually saved his wife's life. During sentencing, the court noted Hutchinson's lack of remorse, as well as his willingness to destroy his own family, and that the crime was particularly heinous.
