ORLANDO -- The Orlando Magic traded former University of Louisiana point guard Elfrid Payton to the Phoenix Suns on Thursday for a future second-round pick.

Payton is in his fourth season in the NBA and will become a restricted free agent this summer. The former Cajun point-guard is reaching career highs this season in scoring (13.0 points per game), field-goal percentage (.520) and 3-point shooting percentage (.373).

The move is the only trade deal made by the Magic before Thursday's 3 p.m. trade deadline.

Payton was an unheralded recruit from John Ehret High School in Jefferson Parish. But in his sophomore season at UL, the 6'2.5" point guard was named to the first team All-Sunbelt Conference.

Payton was selected with the 10th overall pick in the 2014 NBA draft by the Philadelphia 76ers.
