Update: Victims Identified In Fatal Duson Crash

Last night around 6:15 p.m., Duson Police and Fire departments responded to a reported accident with injuries on LA Hwy 95 also known as Austria Road/Mire Highway near its intersection with Interstate 10. 

The initial investigation indicates that a Ford Focus driven by 56-year-old Edna Coffman of Lafayette heading south crossed the center line on LA Hwy 95 (Austria Road/Mire Highway) just north of Interstate 10. 

The vehicle began to hydroplane left and was impacted by a Chevrolet Pickup truck which was traveling north on LA Hwy 95 (Austria Road/Mire Hwy).

 The impact was severe forcing the Focus off the roadway and resulting in fatal injuries to Coffman and her 31-year-old passenger Matthew Williams of Mire, LA . 

The driver of the pickup and his passenger were transported to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital for treatment of moderate injuries.  

No obvious signs of impairment were detected however standard toxicology tests are pending on both drivers. 

The investigation continues in an attempt to determine all of the contributing factors that lead to this fatal crash. 

Duson Police is being assisted by the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office, Metro Forensic Investigation Unit, the Duson Fire Department and the Acadia Parish Coroner’s Office in this investigation.
