Starting today, Tuesday, February 6, Entergy Louisiana will begin a $100 million technological upgrade to the electric power transmission grid in Jeff Davis Parish.

The company says the project will enhance reliability, transmission capacity, and ensure the parish's power remains affordable. The project, which was first announced in December 2017, will cover about 900 square miles within Jeff Davis Parish. Construction will include the placement of new transmission lines and the rebuilding of existing lines. Those lines, according to the company, will be able to withstand 140 miles per hour winds and move power more efficiently via reinforced high-voltage wire.

Construction is expected to begin along Hwy 395 between Grand Marais Road and Doise Road. Entergy says that the southbound/ eastbound lane of Hwy 395 will close for a few months as the project gets underway. Other lanes closures throughout the parish are possible due to the project.

Entergy also says that residents in some areas can experience brief interruptions of power because of the project. Notices will be handed out to residents before any work or interruptions occur.

The project is expected to be completed in February 2020.
