Project Front Yard teams up to make cleanup easier after Rio

Posted: Updated:

Project Front Yard and the Krewe of Rio say their mission to create a greener Mardi Gras is a success.

The groups teamed up to create the last "float" for Rio's parade, a collection of unwanted Mardi Gras throws and garbage they collected along the route.

"So because of the partnership with rio we were able to recycle 400 pounds of plastic bags for the plastic bag round up and about 35 yards or 8,000 gallons of cardboard boxes that would have normally ended up in the landfill," said Skyra Rideaux, assistant to Mayor-President Joel Robideaux.
