KATC's High School Senior Spotlight: Alyssa Williams

Posted: Updated:

Notre Dame basketball's Alyssa Williams makes being 6 foot look so easy but off of the court, it's a bit different.

"Shopping is kind of a struggle. I like to go shopping for shirts cause they're the easiest to buy," Alyssa says.

Alyssa is the Pios not-so-secret weapon on offense and defense.

"Whenever I'm in the post, I have kind of freakishly long arms. So I get down low, I get my arms wide, and whenever I'm there I can basically move people wherever I want them to be," Alyssa Williams.

A 3-year captain and 4-year starter on the Pios varsity basketball team. Williams also competes in volleyball, track and pretty much everything else.

"I'm in a lot of clubs. I'm in the 4H Club, the Beta Club, I'm in the drama club, I'm in quiz bowl, speech and debate, I'm a eucharistic minister, I'm a lecturer here, I'm apart of our retreat team," Williams says.

Williams says it is all accomplished thanks to coffee and a lot of determination. She also does it as the youngest of six children.

Her plays on the court has earned her a college scholarship and has helped her define who she is off of it.

"I try to work as hard as I can every single practice and I hope that I make them want to work that hard," Williams says.

Alyssa's height makes her stick out on the court and it's safe to say she sticks out off it too and she's okay with that.

"It's definitely made me a lot more confident in myself. It helps to not worry about what other people say and to just kind of carry yourself with a little more pride. It's made me a lot stronger," Alyssa says.
