Today's Tools for Schools drop-off was at Breaux Bridge Elementary, where it wasn't just one class, but the whole school that needed our help.
With the assistance of Jim Olivier's Family of Companies, we were able to get pencil sharpeners for the while school.
"We teach so many students, and there are so many pencils we sharpen on a daily basis that without an electric pencil sharpener, it would take up so much of our time," says teacher Jamie Ibach. "Our time with these kids is valuable. we need to spend as much time as we can with them."
"Sharpeners help you by getting your work fast, and you can sharpen your pencils fast and get to work more often," says student Kennedy.
"We're going to use the pencils for like drawing math problems and using them for different subjects," says student Jamie.
The school requested electric pencil sharpeners for each of its 21 classrooms. After some renovations at the school, the old manual sharpeners were either gone or didn't work.
Having dull pencils, and no working sharpeners, was causing frustration among students and lost instructional time.
