Teen identified in fatal Rayne shooting

Police have identified the victim who was shot on Friday in Acadia Parish.

On Friday, February 2, 2018, at 1:45 pm, the Rayne Police Department responded to a 911 call regarding a teen who had been shot in the head at a private structure in the 500 block of W Bull Street, according to Rayne Chief Carroll Stelly. Officers and medical personnel responded and located Jordan Matthews, 17, unresponsive. 

Investigators say the incident has been ruled a negligent homicide and a 15-year-old juvenile is in custody related to the incident. 

The case has been forwarded to the Acadia Parish District Attorney's Office for prosecution.

A fund has been set up at Gossen Funeral Home in Rayne to assist the family in paying for Matthews' burial. If you'd like to help, call the funeral home at 337-334-3141.
