Five men were arrested over the weekend when deputies with Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a call regarding a complaint of chicken fighting.

JDSO Chief Deputy Chris Ivey said when deputies responded to the address of 4456 Pete Road in Jennings at about 9 p.m. Saturday night, they could immediately hear excessive noise coming from the barn next door to the residence.

“There were also a large number of vehicles parked in the yard,” said Ivey. “When they approached the barn to speak to the resident of the home, they discovered a cockfight in progress inside.”

Deputies immediately stopped the fights and identified the people involved.

Scotty Comeaux, 50, the resident, was booked with aggravated cruelty to animals.

Also arrested and booked with the same charge were Timmy Paul Touchet, 43, of Gueydan; Troy Anthony Levergne, 43, of Rayne; Danny F. Guidry, 45, of Church Point; and Chad Louis Miller, 45, of Branch.

By Sunday night, all five had been arrested after posting bonds of $2,000.

“Apparently, this isn’t the first time fights were held at this location,” continued Ivey. “Deputies discovered a well-established chicken fighting ring inside the barn.”
