Clouds Hang On-Rain Returns Tuesday

Posted: Updated:

Considerable cloudiness over much of Acadiana early today, with some breaks in the clouds over the northern sections. Temperatures will start in the 40s and lower 50 over the area today with generally dry conditions. Dry air will continue pushing southward this morning, trying to dig out the clouds. But eventually the clouds will win over the battle of the skies by this afternoon as a warm front lifts northward toward the coast. Temperatures this afternoon should reach the low to mid 60s for highs. Coastal areas could see a stray shower late in the day as the warm front approaches.

The front will be lifting in response to a low pressure area that will dig out of the northern Rockies toward the Plains today, and into the Red River Valley by tomorrow. Moisture will be drawn from the Gulf of Mexico with scattered light rains developing by early Tuesday. Showers, and perhaps a few thundershowers will move in. Most rains are expected to be light, with up to 1/2 inch expected with highs near 70 degrees. The front will get closer to the area on Wednesday with more rainfall. Wednesday's rains are expected to be more widespread, but still on the light side. Expect another 1/2 inch of rain Wednesday with highs again near 70.

The front is expected late in the day Wednesday. Rains will quickly end with gusty north winds returning. Temperatures by Thursday morning will drop to near 40 degrees with wind chills in the 30s. Skies will clear and sunshine is expected. Highs will struggle to 60 by the end of the afternoon.  Unfortunately, clouds will return quickly Friday with another system bringing rain for the weekend. Some rainfall totals could reach an inch. Temperatures are expected to remain mild with daytime temperatures in the 60s and low at night in the 50s.
