Press Release

EUNICE, La - After pounding 95 runs in the first six games of the season, No. 8 LSU Eunice relied on its pitching to close out a sweep of SW Tennessee with a 2-1 victory.  LSUE improved to 7-0 on the young season.

The trio of Andrew Sheridan, Hunter Joubert and Landon Clifton combined to allow just two hits and six base runners on the afternoon.  Clifton picked up the win after going three full innings of no-hit relief.  The freshman allowed one walk and struck out two batters.

LSU Eunice took the 1-0 lead in the third after three singles by Austin Kirkpatrick, Jacob Richard and Koi Westbrook loaded the bases.  Cameron Horton worked a full-count two-out walk to bring in Kirkpatrick for the first score of the game

The Salukis responded in fifth after chasing Bengal starter Andrew Sheridan. SW Tennessee loaded the bases after two players were hit by a pitch and one was walked.  Hunter Joubert walked in a run on the first batter he faced but induced a strike out and fly out to squash the threat.

Sheridan was solid in his first start of the year, allowing two hits and that one run in 4.1 innings worked.  The Sulphur product struck out three batters while walking a pair.

The Bengals threatened with the bases loaded in the fifth but left empty handed and kept two more base runners on through the eighth inning.

Jacob Richard began the rally the ninth with a lead off stand-up triple off a deep line drive to right-centerfield.  After Koi Westbrook walked and stole second base, Richard scored on a wild pitch to end the game.

Richard accounted for 3 of the Bengals' seven hits and capped off a productive weekend.  The Teurlings Catholic product went 10-for-17 (.588 batting average) over the four game set with SW Tennessee, driving in seven runs and scoring six off of four doubles and Sunday's triple.

LSU Eunice now turns its attention to a Mardi Gras weekend series against Northeast Oklahoma A&M.  First pitch Friday is set for 6:00PM from Bengals Stadium.  Fans can also follow the baseball team's Twitter (@LSUEBengalsBSB), Facebook (@LSUEuniceBaseball) and Instagram (@LSUEBengals) accounts.?
