Port Barre Police clear woman in armed robbery, investigation continues

The Port Barre Police Department says they have uncovered new evidence in a case involving an armed robbery at a local Dollar General that occurred on Thursday, February 1.

Video from the Dollar General, analyzed by police, allegedly showed a female, identified as Ebony Washington acting as an accomplice to a male suspect identified by police as 33-year-old Jarvis Castille. Police say the video allegedly showed Washington entering the store before Castille, and making a "walk-through" of the store without purchasing any items.

She then exited.

Police say that Castille entered the store after the woman left and walked around before approaching the register with a small item and displaying a knife. Police say Castille then demanded money from the cashier before fleeing.

Surveillance footage from a neighboring business shows Castille running from the Dollar General and into his own home, according to a release.

Ebony Washington was originally identified by Port Barre police as the female suspect involved in the robbery. Washington was arrested after an initial investigation by police. They say that she and Castille share a home.  

Upon further investigation by the department, it was determined that Washington was not the woman seen on video surveillance at the Dollar General as she was working out of town during the incident. Washington and the unidentified female subject resemble each other, according to police.

Port Barre Police are continuing to investigate the incident in an attempt to identify the female suspect, but say the woman may or may not be connected to the armed robbery at all.  Police Chief Deon Boudreaux says he has asked the District Attorney's office to dismiss the charges against Washington.
