During a press conference this morning, Welsh Police Chief Marcus Crochet said a team of investigators from his department, Jennings Police, Jeff Davis Sheriff and the FBI have been running down leads since the day Gray died. They've also received help from the Acadia, Lafayette, St. Mary and Calcasieu parish sheriff's offices, as well as the Fenton and Sulphur police departments.

Arrested and booked with second-degree murder are:

  • Trevonte Lamarque Talbert, 22, of Welsh
  • Nicholas Anderson, 25, of Lafayette
  • Terrell Williams, 25, of Franklin

Hundreds of man-hours have been worked on the case, Crochet said, running down leads, serving more than 30 search warrants and interviewing witnesses, he said.

"From the initial call, we haven't stopped," Crochet said. "We ran on every lead that we had. We received a lot of information from the public. Let me touch on that: Y'all wouldn't believe the amount of information and phone calls we got. A lot of it was rumor, but we chased it anyway. We took every little bit of factual information from each person and put it all together. These guys did an incredible job of chasing people down and doing interviews."

Crochet said the assistance from the other agencies was invaluable. Assistance from the community also helped solve the crime, he said. And, since the investigation is not yet complete, he said he's still asking for that help.

"That's very crucial to the investigation because while they're able to do this, our detectives are able to start branching out and talking with people. If you prolong this stuff. The longer you prolong it, the further these suspects get from us," explained Chief Croche

Gray's cousin, Sharon Brown, witnessed the murder. She says she's thankful for the arrests, but she regrets this day ever had to happen.

"We all grew up together, but you never know. The world has done and changed so much," explained cousin, Sharon Brown

"Call us if you have some information," Crochet said. "If you think it's nothing, call us anyway. Maybe we know something you don't know, and when we put it together it puts a light on."
