The Acadia Parish Police Jury wants the public to know about a scam artist who is using the police jury's phone number.

The call appears to come from the phone number 337-788-8800, which is the police jury phone number. It's a scammer, pretending to sell health insurance.

This is a scammer. The Police Jury will not call to solicit information, especially personal information, officials.

If you receive a phone call from anyone asking for personal information like your name, address, social security number or other details, you should be suspicious of a scam. If the person says they're calling from the police jury, for instance, hang up, look up the number for yourself, and call the police jury to ask about the call. No governmental entities will call and try to get information out of you like that. You should always be on your guard. If the call is legitimate, no one will mind that you checked it out.
