The Jennings Police Department is alerting residents on their Facebook page of a phone scam that has been reported in the area.

The department says that victims receive a call from a number claiming they are from the sheriff's office. The person on the line tells victims that they have missed jury duty and that they now have to pay a fine to avoid jail time.

Jennings police and Jeff Davis Parish deputies say that their offices are not making these calls and have not authorized anyone to make them. The departments are urging citizens that receive these types of calls to ignore them.
