February 1, Public Works crews for the City of Lafayette began placing barricades along dedicated parade routes in the city.

Barricades went up beginning at 8:00 am on Thursday, February 1 at the start of the parade route near the intersection of Jefferson and Simcoe Streets. Barricades will also go up along the route to the intersection of Johnston and Vermilion Streets.

On Friday, February 2 the placement of barricades will continue starting at 8:00 am. Starting at the Johnston and Vermilion intersection, crews will place the remaining line of barricades along the route towards Johnston Street and N. Colleg Rd and continue down N. College Road towards Cajun Field.

Public Works says that approximately 5,500 barricades will be placed along the 3.9 miles of roadway.

The Krewe of Carnival en Rio parade will be the first group of revelers to take to the route on Saturday, February 3. The parade begins at 6:30 pm. Lafayette police are expected to close the roads along the route one hour before the parade rolls and reopen after all citizens have left the parade route.

This morning KATC's Katie Lopez was live scoping out the route and giving us a heads up of where crews will be working this morning and Friday.
