Around 6:00 pm on Tuesday, January 30, an officer with the Port Barre police department observed a Ford Taurus traveling 56 mph in a 45 mph zone on US 190 Westbound. The officer attempted a traffic stop but the vehicle increased speed and continued towards Opelousas. As the officer pursued the vehicle, an information check on the car’s license plate showed the vehicle was stolen out Opelousas.
The pursuing officers observed the stolen vehicle reaching speeds in the upper 90s and abruptly changing lanes in an attempt to elude them. The pursuit continued into Opelousas and ended on Desoto street, where the suspect bailed out of the vehicle in an attempt to flee on foot. He was quickly apprehended and placed under arrest.
The stolen vehicle was returned to its rightful owner and the suspect, 22-year-old Tamarcus Lorenzo Guillory, of Opelousas was booked in the Port Barre jail for speeding 56mph in a 45mph zone, improper lane usage, reckless operation, aggravated flight, resisting an officer by flight, unlicensed driver, and possession of a stolen vehicle.
