Teenager injured in New Iberia drive-by shooting

NEW IBERIA -

An 18-year-old man is injured following a drive-by shooting in New Iberia this evening.

Iberia Parish Sheriff's deputies responded to the shooting at 7:23 p.m. on Lombard Street near S Hopkins Street.

Witnesses say a group of people was standing on the sidewalk talking when an occupant in a white vehicle drove by and opened fire, according to a spokesman with the sheriff's office.  

The teenager was shot once and transported to a Lafayette hospital. Deputies say he is expected to be okay.
