Crowley appoints long-time alderman to fill empty seat

Posted: Updated:

The Crowley Board of Aldermen appointed a familiar face to fill a vacancy today.

Long-time Alderwoman Kitty Valdetoro announced her resignation recently. Her fourth term ends this year, so someone will be appointed to fill out the term until a new alderman can be elected this fall.

To fill that spot, the board appointed Ira Thomas, who himself had served three terms on the board.

"I have 12 years of experience, having served before, so just giving a different opinion than they've had in the last three years for this term, and hopefully encouraging some younger people to step up and think about this position," Thomas said. "We have elections this season, so hopefully we'll get some new guys and girls that will want to come on board."
