Full- and Part-Time registration is now open for Louisiana Folk Roots’ 19th Annual Dewey Balfa Cajun & Creole Heritage Week, set for April at Chicot State Park.

The event will be April 20-26 this year.

Balfa Week is a music camp for adults to learn and improve their skills at Cajun/Zydeco guitar, fiddle, accordion, rhythm/percussion, singing in French, Cajun and Zydeco dance and more from seasoned and well-known expert musicians. At Balfa Week, you can learn knee-to-knee with master musicians and culture bearers surrounded by great folks from across the globe. Additionally, a group lodge and campsites at Chicot are available to maintain an incredibly immersive experience, especially with late-night jams often extending into the wee hours.

The 20-21st begins camp with a Cajun & Zydeco music festival – Le Grand Hoorah! – and camp officially kicks off Sunday. Lodging in the park is available Friday the 20th thru Friday the 27th.

Balfa Week features: Five days of intensive classes on fiddle, guitar and accordion; Twice-daily participatory teaching sessions on Cajun & Creole Vocals; Five days of instructor-coached Band Labs; Nightly Dances with fantastic Cajun and Creole artists; Artist-led Jam des Amis sessions; Intimate afternoon words-and-music sessions with accomplished and legendary Featured Artists; Afternoon Lagniappe Sessions on a variety of topics; and more.
