Zoosiana introduces GMA to cute critters, talks educational shows

KATC's Katie Lopez was live this morning at Zoosiana to introduce us to a few critters.

Our first animal guest was a Lesser Anteater or Tamandua named Bissel. Anteaters forage primarily on ants and termites by using their 16 inch-long tongue to grab the tiny insects in their tunneled homes.

Bissel's favorite snack is honey, which he demonstrates eating while using her long tongue. A bug smoothie was also on the menu this morning, a mixture of her favorite insects and honey.

Bissel is a part of Zooisiana's Live Show which happen at 11 am and 3 pm during the week with different show times on the weekend.  During the show, keepers will bring out different animals to educate the audience and provide close up interactions with guests.

The show's message is, ultimately, conservation.

Our second guess this morning was a porcupine named Quillbur. Keepers say that bananas are his favorite food and that there are a few misconceptions about porcupines.

Porcupines do not shoot out their quills, contrary to some perceived notions.
