The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development says construction will begin Thursday on a $3.07 million project to construct a roundabout at the intersection of LA 31 and LA 92-1 in St. Martin Parish.

The work is estimated to take place daily from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., weather permitting.

There will be intermittent lane closures throughout the project with delays of 5-10 minutes. The road will be open to regular traffic with a 12-foot lane restriction on oversized loads passing through the work zone.

LA 182, LA 96, and LA 347 may be used as alternate routes.

Roundabouts are one-way, circular intersections designed to improve safety and efficiency for motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians. Roundabouts reduce crashes by decreasing stop-and-go traffic.

The project is estimated for completion in October 2018.
