Jon Bridgers has been invited to join First Lady Melania Trump while President Trump gives the State of the Union address on Tuesday.

Bridgers, of Watson, is the self-proclaimed founder of the Cajun Navy 2016. The group helped rescue flood victims during the August 2016 flood in the Baton Rouge area and also in Texas during Hurricane Harvey.

The term Cajun Navy has been around for years and refers to a group of volunteers with private boats who assist in rescue efforts. In 2005, during Hurricane Katrina, hundreds of brave woman and men met at the Mall of Acadiana, hitched their boats and headed to New Orleans and surrounding areas to rescue stranded citizens.  Many residents who were rescued say they owe their lives to these rescue groups.

The address will begin shortly after 8 pm CT on KATC and other networks.
