There's a new Raising Cane, Todd Graves announced today.

The puppy, Raising Cane III, follows Raising Cane II, who died last year at 16, and the original Cane, who gave Graves the name for his fried chicken restaurants when he started them in 1996.

Graves, the Founder and CEO of the company, said he and wife Gwen added the yellow Labrador Retriever puppy to their family recently.

Cane II was a fixture at events and served as a nationally certified pet therapy dog who along with Gwen Graves spent years visiting patients at hospitals throughout the country. At just nine weeks old, it will be a while before Cane III assumes any official responsibilities at company and community events or begins training as a therapy dog, a statement from the company says.

“While it is our hope that she can continue the legacy of our beloved Cane II as a certified pet therapy dog, it’s too soon to know if that’s possible,” says Todd Graves. “This is an exciting day for my family and all of us at Raising Cane’s and we can’t wait for the community to meet her,” he added.

Raising Cane III made a brief public appearance at the Washington Mardi Gras celebration in DC this weekend.  Graves introduced the puppy to the Mystick Krewe of Louisianians on Saturday.
