LSUE Sweeps North Lake College with 18-7 win Sunday

Posted: Updated:

EUNICE, La. -  Cameron Horton blasted a pair of home runs to help pace a come-from-behind run rule win over North Lake College, 18-7.  Horton's two long balls were part of a five home run day for the No. 8 Bengals.
LSUE (3-0) plated 46 runs over the three games against the Blazers this weekend.
The Blazers seized early opportunities and raced out to a 5-1 lead and led 7-5 going into the sixth inning.  The Bengals took an early lead momentarily in the second inning after scoring five runs in the frame which included the first of Horton's home runs, a two-out grand slam.  Austin Kirkpartrick added a solo home run to put LSUE on the board for the first time in the afternoon.
North Lake College responded in the third by scoring off a Brian Fairbanks' error on the pitching mound and a RBI single from Gavin Hunt to take back a 7-6 advantage.
That set the stage for 12 runs over the final two innings powered by three home runs and eight hits.  Johnny Johnson started the rally with a two-out bases loaded two-RBI single to give LSUE the lead for good.  Jacob Richard followed that up with a two-RBI single of his own.
LSU Eunice enjoyed an eight-run seventh highlighted by a two-run home run by Horton, a two-run laser long ball from Koi Westbrook and a towering solo shot by Brent Hebert to straight away center.
Hebert finished a single shy of the cycle, hitting a triple to start the seventh and a double in the first inning.

The Bengals rolled through six different pitchers on the afternoon with Noah Beason shining in relief.  The freshman threw 3.1 shutout innings while scattering just two hits to record the win.
LSUE will return back to Bengals Stadium next weekend for a four-game set against Southwest Tennessee.  Game One is set for Thursday with a 6:00PM first pitch.
