Annual Gumbo Cook-Off raises money for baby with spina bifida

Posted: Updated:
OPELOUSAS -

A family is raising money for medical treatment for their daughter.

The Annual Gumbo Cook-Off in Opelousas dedicates their event to a different patient each year.

In its 12th year, Adalynn Guidroz was chosen to be the beneficiary.

Adalynn was diagnosed with spina bifida during her mother's pregnancy and has been through multiple procedures since birth. She is currently being treated at Children's Hospital in New Orleans.

All proceeds from today's event will go to Adalynn and her family for medical expenses.

"We didn't have any idea that "Addy" was even submitted, somebody did it, until we got the call. So, we were very shocked and very happy. I mean, it's overwhelming but good overwhelming," said Adalynn's mother, Brooke Gerace.
