Church Point community leader dies

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Linton J. Brooks, 72, on Saturday.

Brooks, who died last week, was the owner and operator of Brooks Barber Shop for nearly 50 years. He and his brother, Leroy Brooks, owned and operated Honey Hush Trucking for more than 40 years. He also was a volunteer, for more than 30 years, at the Acadia-St. Landry Guest home. He was an usher at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church, and was well known in the community as a mentor of young people. 

The mass will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church in Church Point. Visitation will be held at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church in Church Point and will begin on Saturday at 8 a.m. and will continue until just prior to the service time. A Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at 10:15 a.m. Interment will follow the church service and will be in St. Edmund Catholic Cemetery in Branch.
