Longtime Iberia teacher dies of complications of the flu

Funeral services will be tomorrow for Robin Dressel, a longtime kindergarten teacher at Magnolia Elementary School in Iberia Parish. 

Dressel, 56, died Tuesday. Superintendent Dale Henderson said it is his understanding she died of complications of the flu and pneumonia. 

Dressel had taught at Magnolia for 30 years, according to her obituary. 

Henderson said he went with the school's principal to talk to Dressel's students Wednesday.

"It was one of the most emotional moments I've had on my career," he said. 

Henderson said there are teams of counselors assisting the students in the school, as well as Dressel's co-workers. The faculty, students and staff at the school are a family, he said. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Friday, January 26, 2018, at St. Peter Catholic Church in New Iberia for Dressel. Entombment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery.

A gathering of family and friends will be Thursday from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm at Pellerin Funeral Home. A rosary, led by the Men’s Rosary Group, will be prayed at 7:00 pm Thursday. Visitation will continue on Friday from 8:00 am until 10:00 am.

Dressel was born in New Iberia and lived there all her life. She graduated from Loreauville High and UL.
