Vermilion Parish man who allegedly asked friend to kill wife found guilty

Posted: Updated:

A Vermilion Parish man accused of asking his friend to kill his wife has been found guilty in court Wednesday.

Harlow Hutchinson was arrested in early October 2015 for soliciting the best-man at his wedding to kill his wife of 24 years. The court watched hidden police videos of Hutchinson allegedly plotting the murder with his best man.

In the videos, Hutchinson talks with the alleged hit man about the crossbow and type of arrows they planned to use to kill the wife.  They also discuss using surgical gloves and chemicals to clean up DNA.

Hutchinson testified to cashing $150,000 for the alleged hit man to buy the weapon, but it was never purchased.

Hutchinson claims he "played along" with the hitman to protect his wife. However, he says he never reported the plot the police in order to protect his longtime friend.

Prosecutor Celeste White wanted to question the defendant on several specific incidents that showed Hutchinson's disregard for his wife's welfare, but the judge denied the motion, saying the events were unrelated.

Sentencing is in February.
