A trooper with State Police Troop I is on administrative leave pending an investigation into his December arrest.

A spokesman for Troop I says that John Sims is on leave now. He's been assigned to Troop I since May 2014.

Sims was booked with domestic abuse battery back in December, and released after posting $2,500 bond, records show.

Sims was arrested by St. Martin Parish deputies back in December after an argument with his girlfriend, court records show. Records show that Sims and the alleged victim, who has two children with Sims but lives at a different address, went to his home at about 4 a.m. on a Thursday morning. She told deputies she went there, and let herself in with her key, because she had tried calling Sims and he hadn't responded. When she went in, she said, she woke him up and they started arguing. She said during the argument he grabbed her by the arms and slammed her up against a wall.

When deputies went to speak with Sims, he said that he was asleep when the alleged victim came into his room and started screaming at her. He said he was startled, and knew she was upset but didn't know why. He said she grabbed his phone and started going through it, and he grabbed her because he wanted his phone back. She tried to get away, and that's when, he allegedly admitted, he pushed her up against the wall.
