Chester Cedars, a longtime St. Martin Parish prosecutor and municipal attorney, is the new parish president.

The St. Martin Parish Council held a special meeting tonight to appoint an interim parish president.

The current parish president, Guy Cormier, will resign on March 2, 2018 to take a job with the State Police Jury Association.

The council will also vote to hold a special election for the position this fall. To read more about Cormier's departure, click here

Cedars will hold the seat until a special election is called to replace Cormier.

Cedars served for many years as a 16th Judicial District Assistant District Attorney and as attorney for several St. Martin Parish governments.
