The woman that fell overboard from a cruise ship into the Gulf of Mexico is from Acadiana. Family members have identified her as Juwanna Brooks.

The 44-year-old woman fell from the Carnival Triumph on Sunday night.

KATC spoke with the family earlier today. The Mexican Navy is conducting search and rescue efforts to locate her. On Facebook, Juwanna Brook's mother pleaded for help finding her missing daughter.

The family posted a message on Facebook asking for prayers.

Here's a statement from the cruiseline:

Sunday evening, a 44-year-old female guest was seen going overboard from the Carnival Triumph in the Gulf of Mexico while the ship was on the second day of a five-day cruise from New Orleans. All appropriate authorities were notified and Carnival’s CARE Team is providing support and assistance to the guest’s family.

Carnival Triumph was released from search and rescue operations. The Mexican authorities, in charge of the regional search and rescue efforts in this area,  have assumed responsibility for the search and rescue activities.

Carnival Triumph arrived in Cozumel last night and will depart later this evening.
