St. Mary Parish Sheriff's deputies have arrested a third person in connection with the death of a dog during the cold weather.

Emma Matthews, 64, was booked with aggravated cruelty to animals. She is the third person arrested in connection with the death of a dog that a deputy found on January 14. The dog was in the front yard of a house on Friendship Alley in Amelia. The deputy investigated and learned that residents left the dog outside during the extremely cold weather without proper shelter, and so the dog died.

Also arrested were Hodges Matthews, 39, and Leslie Matthews, 42, were arrested Wednesday night on warrants for aggravated cruelty to animals.

Temperatures dipped into the 20s that night that the dog died.

All three have been released on bond.
