Coteau Elementary closes school due to water problems, reopens Tuesday

Posted: Updated:

This morning, Coteau Elementary School asked parents and guardians to pick up their children.

The school was experiencing water issues related to the hard freeze last week.

Schools in Iberia Parish have been closed since last Tuesday because of an arctic blast that hit Acadiana. Parents say all the time off is taking a toll.

"Well I'm also in school and working it's been a little hard having to especially today drop everything," says Tiffany Delahoussaye whose daughter is a student at Coteau Elementary.

According to the school's Facebook page, the issue has been fixed, but one teacher says students will pay the price for all the time off.

"We're going to have to make up some time. We're going to have to add some more minutes to the curriculum time because testing is coming up soon. We definitely need to make sure we're putting that back into class time," says fifth-grade teacher, Kasy Williams.

The school will open to students and staff on Tuesday, January 23, 2018.
