Crowley Police: Man found dead in yard may be victim of freezing temperatures

Posted: Updated:

Johnson Lewis Jr. lived alone at this home on Ross Avenue, where his body was found Wednesday morning in the below freezing temperatures.

"He was a pretty nice guy. He would help you out if he can. He would help you take trash out. Going to the store if you need something," said neighbor Fred Hayes

Police say, Lewis, who was 56 years old, was appropriately dressed for the frigid weather. He was found lying in a yard in the 300 block of Ross Avenue in Crowley.

Although they don't suspect foul play, they say other health issues could have been contributing factors to his death.

"He did have power to his home to our knowledge. Everything I've checked with City Hall did indicate he did have power to his residence. You know, hypothermia is very quick in teen temperatures and single-digit temperatures," explained City of Crowley Police Department Chief, Jimmy Broussard

"I'm very sad because he was a real nice guy. I would sit down and talk to him, you know on the corner. We would just sit down and chat," said Hayes

The Acadia Parish Coroner's transported the body to the Calcasieu Forensic Lab for an Autopsy.
