Roads staying icy until the afternoon

Posted: Updated:

Winter returns to Acadiana with an icy start and commute Wednesday morning with many of the roads around south Louisiana covered in ice after Tuesday's weather.

The question now will be when will the temperatures warm above freezing and give the roads a chance to thaw out, unfortunately it doesn't look like the roads will see much improvement until after lunch.

Temperatures will barely crawl up to around 34 in the afternoon giving us a few hours of thawing and hopefully drying before the temperatures begin to fall back down below freezing.

All the while winds will remain strong and out of the north which will keep the wind chill well below freezing and hanging in the teens and low 20s through the majority of the day.

If the road is given a chance to thaw out then the sun and wind should have a chance to dry it out, areas in the shade or places where drying can't occur can expect to be icy again Thursday morning.

Sunshine will remain out the next few days with a slow warm up starting Thursday afternoon.
