Sleet & flurries moving into Acadiana

Posted: Updated:

Winter weather has begun to move into Acadiana this morning.

Many locations have been reporting light to moderate sleet or freezing rain which is making the roadways wet.

We are also getting some reports of a dusting of sleet/ice on roofs and in grassy areas over northern portions of Acadiana near Eunice and Opelousas.

The wintry weather will continue to slowly drift south throughout the day ending by this evening but the thinking remains the same with only light accumulations expected of a dusting up to half a inch of sleet/snow possible.

The main concern looks to be the threat for icy roadways as the cold rain/sleet/snow could begin to freeze on lesser traveled roads and bridges and overpasses as temperatures fall into the upper 20s this afternoon/evening.

Please take it slow on the roads and give yourself plenty of space between you and the car ahead of you.
