10-year-old creates news station for kids in Acadiana

Acadia Parish -

There's one news station that's giving KATC a run for its money and the CEO is a 10-year-old student from Mire Elementary.

At a young age, Even St. Julien  has had a love for journalism and he took that passion to a whole new level.

"I watched the news and just started wanting to do it," Even said.

While most children have a play room, Even has his own news studio that's decked out with a desk to anchor in. The room also has pretty much everything a kid needs to run a news station.

"I put everything they need, like this is my notebook where I keep my scripts in," Even said.

Even's former teacher helped kick start his news station by teaching him how to shoot and edit his own videos. Since then, Even posts his segments on Facebook and goes live from social media, with the help from his family.

"Even has always been a little old soul," his mother Celeste Touchet said. "As a young kid he wasn't playing with toys and doing that stuff. He was either being a teacher, being a principal and now it's like "mom I want to be a news anchor. I want to build a studio."

However, running your own news station can be tough for a 10-year-old.

"It gets nerve-wracking because your like wait I have to do the scripts and then when you get ready to do it and sit down and your like wait I have to get my weather stuff together," Even said.

While it is a lot of hard work, Even says he's preparing for the future. His dream is to be a news anchor and reporter.

"It's amazing," Touchet said. "It's emotional because as a mom you want to see your kids do what they love and do it to the fullest. It makes me feel like hey I'm doing my job right because my kids are smart, polite and amazing. That's my boys."
